I prefer technologies that are appropriate for the job and that leave the owner in control of their own environment.

Where possible, systems are built using proven platforms, sensible defaults and straightforward architecture.

Just as importantly, they are documented.

You should understand what has been installed, how it fits together and how it can be maintained after the work is finished.
